"The Seven Gifts of Kwanzaa"

“The Seven Gifts of Kwanzaa” is an exciting musical celebration of family, community and culture, featuring the Impilo Cultural Dance Ensemble, performing African Dancing and Drumming  from South Africa, Guinea and the Congo. This dynamic presentation teaches the Seven Principles of Kwanzaa.  The Harambee Pre-Kwanzaa event brings the African spirit of this celebration to life. This live production is family-friendly and suitable for all ages!

The Seven Gifts of Kwanzaa was sponsored in part by a grant provided by the City of Houston.

The Impilo Cultural Dance Ensemble is an intensive training program for male and female youth ages 6-17 in traditional African dance and drum with creative activities and life skills development.  Experienced arts professionals from our community interact and instruct the youth in the areas of respect, health and hygiene, etiquette, world citizenship, "green" living and other basic skills.  

Since Sisterhood Creations is geographically located in Houston ’s historic Third Ward community, Impilo participants are recruited from within Third Ward and its surrounding neighborhoods.  No prior dance experience is required.  There are no program fees; however, parents must participate as chaperones and in other volunteer capacities for their child(ren) to participate. Performances offer public speaking training, self esteem reinforcement/development and logged volunteer/community service hours.  Impilo programming also includes an international culture-sharing trip(CEP) to a continental African country or countries where the African influence is strongly evident in the indigenous culture.
